    In 2014 Nissan signed a sponsorship deal with Europe's largest club football competition, UEFA Championship League (UCL), making Nissan an official global partner from 2014/2015 up to the end of the 2017/2018 season. The UEFA Championship League does not only capture the imagination and passion of European football fans, but is also watched and celebrated by millions of football fanatics around the world.

     

    Nissan Sub Sahara Africa's challenge was to build a strong brand equity through brand association with UEFA Championship League on the African continent, even though Africa doesn't participate in the tournament.

     

    The objective was to develop a campaign which creates awareness and celebrates the collaboration of two exciting brands (Nissan and UEFA Championship League),both engineers in their fields.

     

    Through our research, we discovered that the UEFA Championship League was the most popular football tournament watched in Africa. Therefore, our solution was to use Nissan's customer-ethos and create a social media campaign,designed around football enthusiasts in Africa. The idea was to capture people's passion for the tournament by sharing it with Nissan. In doing so, participants had the opportunity to become a "Nissan Champion" and ultimately stood a chance to win a trip to the 2016 UEFA Championship League final live in Milan.

While the main focus of the digital campaign was developed around the football fans, Nissan also made use of this opportunity to increase vehicle sales by emphasising the idea of being engineers of excitement and consequently influencing the awareness already created on a digital platform. Our solution was to provide Nissan dealers with retail templates, designed and branded with the UCL visual elements, to strategically create exciting vehicle and service offers during the course of the tournament.
